After a long and hard journey through the other 7 gates, we finally arrive at one that is kind of beautiful. This is the one most Christians hope to get to. It is one of beauty and power, and one that is shared between God and us — friend to friend. It is the “Fountain Gate.”

Vision Walk Week 7: The Refuse Gate
Sunday Feb 18, 2018
Sunday Feb 18, 2018
We come to the halfway point, with one of the most baffling gates: The Refuse Gate. (And, in this case, it is not pronounced (rəˈfyo͞oz/) but instead: (ref yo͞os) -- as in garbage.) Or, as the Hebrew sign on the gate puts it: The Dung Gate.
How in the world can that apply to the Christian Life? The answer is in the detail. And, in fact, if we don't master this gate, our Christian Life never moves forward.

We continue "walking through the gates of Nehemiah" this week. And we come to one that is often avoided by people who don't understand it. It is the Old Gate. Or, as the prophet Jeremiah puts it in Chapter 6: "Stand at the crossroads and look, ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it..." Are you ready to walk through the Old Gate?

As Nehemiah approaches his destination, he must have been excited -- over four months of planning and travel has finally led him to the doorstep of fulfilling God's destiny for his life. But before he even arrives, word reaches him that the leaders of Jerusalem have heard he is coming to assist Israel -- and they are not happy about it. Welcome to Working for the Kingdom of Heaven! Don't expect that there won't be opposition. Or as Pastor Grice puts it: Movement causes Friction...

Sometimes the backstory matters. In the book of Nehemiah, the author left us important clues that show us how to be ready when an opportunity comes along, and how to learn the most important part of the planning stage: waiting on God’s signal. Nehemiah can teach us a lot about planning for God’s Vision.
